சொக்கநாதஸ்வாமி கோவில், தோமளூர்

Today's blessings (07/05/2017)

சொக்கநாதஸ்வாமி கோவில், தோமளூர்

Being a staunch Maduraiite, I was keen on visiting a Siva Temple, where chances are that there would have been a Thirukalyanam, coinciding with the Meenakshi Kalayanam today. As we (Latha and I ) have come to Domlur, Bangalore to settle our daughter Sanjana in her new job, I was scanning the map for a  temple nearby. God is kind and he showed me Sri Chokanathaswamy Temple within 2 kms from Ginger Hotel where we were staying. Thought of Chockanatha and Meenakshi brought Meenakshi Kalyanam to our mind.

நாம் எழுதும் கதையில் twist வைப்பது இந்த ஆண்டவனுக்கு வேலையாயிருக்கிறது..... இன்றும் வைத்தார்.

Wikipedia traced the history of this temple to Raja Raja Chola period and about his contributions to this temple by way of lands to take care of the maintenance of the temple.  Later developments and construction of the temple structure is by the Vijayanagara empire and their kings.

The real twist god gave was when we realised that this is a Vaishnavite temple and not a Saivite temple. மாமனா இருந்தா என்ன மச்சானா இருந்தா நமக்கென்ன !

A small temple, which is a little difficult to locate, though located parallel to the busy HAL airport road, and close proximity to the busy commercial district.  Located in the middle of a residential locality, the temple is deliberately constructed at an elevated point, so as to make sure Sun's rays falls on the deity in the month of Feb and March.

The temple management and the priest were sincerity personified, when it came to performing the poojas for the Sandhya Kaalam.

There are only three shrines, Sri Devi Bhoo Devi Sametha Chockanathaswamy, Lord Ganesha and Lord Anjaneaya. The latter ones  seem to be of a relatively recent addition, but I am not sure.

There were a few white squares marked in the Praharam and we did not comprehend until we asked someone. A lesser-known feature of the temple is its 12 pranic points -small white squares around the temple that are said to radiate powerful positive energy . “This is the only pranic temple in Bengaluru,“

Many of the sculptures in the temple evidence the age of the temple.

The Tamil Inscriptions in one of the pillars I saw ( needless to say that commercialization has forced such a testimony of vintage to be relegated to be the support for a steel structure) talk about the Tamil connections

There are a couple of videos on youtube and news items and I am giving below a few of them.
