Who said Halloween is a Western idea and of Christian origin? The popular belief is that Halloween has influences from Christian practices the earliest instance of following Halloween is from the 8th century AD. Halloween celebration as we know it today is probably restricted to trick-or-treat and attending Halloween costume parties or carving pumpkins, lighting Bonfires etc If I told you that Halloween’s equivalent has been practiced in India for a long long time well before the 8th century you should not be surprised Seeking is believing ! Vedic astrology largely depends on the birthtime, place and date for casting the horoscope of the individual and consequently for making worthy predictions. However great an astrologer could be, if he has to depend on inaccurate chart (cast based on inaccurate data) his predictions would turn awry. Getting the wrong birthtime is One of the best ways to turn a horoscope to a ‘Horror” scope. Said to be the oldest temple of Bangalore is dedicated to Lord Shiva, probably 1250 years old. Different opinions exist about who built the temple (Cholas or Vijayanagara kingdom). Irrespective of who built, we are grateful to those who built this lovely temple. Halasu means a Jackfruit tree.... It is possible that the region was full of jackfruit trees that the town got this name 'Halasuru'. Modern world has adopted the meaningless name 'Ulsoor'. Accompanied by Kamakshi Amma (one of the forms of Parvathi), Lord Shiva takes the name of Someshwara in this town. A large temple structure with a 48 pillar mandala carved out of granite, is a sight to behold. Modernisation has taken a toll on this vintage structure, with more cement and concrete visible. Day's blessings (07/05/2017) Being a staunch Maduraiite, I was keen on visiting a Siva Temple today, where chances are that there would have been a Thirukalyanam, coinciding with the Meenakshi Kalayanam today. As we (Latha and I ) have come to Domlur, Bangalore to settle our daughter in her new job, I was scanning the map for a temple nearby. God is kind and he showed me Sri Chokanathaswamy Temple within 2 kms from Ginger Hotel where we were staying. Thought of Chockanatha brought Meenakshi Kalyanam to our mind. நாம் எழுதும் கதையில் twist வைப்பது இந்த ஆண்டவனுக்கு வேலையாயிருக்கிறது..... இன்றும் வைத்தார்.
