Ginger the Saviour

Ginger

I am not a doctor but a worthy patient. Besides a dozen frequent illnesses most human beings ordinarily experience, I had been having frequent bouts of intense headache which later I understood is christened Migraine. The essential symptoms are headache on one side that can last for 72 hours non stop and nausea, besides other irritants.

No amount of medical advice and medicines helped (mild pain killers like Asprin or Paracetamol). Consumption of significant amounts of water, staying away from light and sound helped a bit but was not able to overcome Migraine, until I realised a magic drug called "Ginger", which none of the trained doctors thought of suggesting.

Consumption of very diluted ginger juice ( one spoon in 100 ml of water) or eating sliced ginger in small quantities worked like magic. Headache became a lot more manageable and nausea almost stopped. (Warning: Dosage should be chosen on the advice of experts and please do not try higher dosage for instant relief)

We might have seen in olden days, people applying a paste of dried Ginger on their forehead to overcome headache.

Contrary to popular belief, though Ginger is spicy, it is not acidic. It is alkaline & regulates the pH skewness in our digestive system caused by digestive acids secreted by the body and the acidity from the food we consume.

Thanking my parents and grandparents for having introduced Ginger ( and cursing qualified doctors in equal proportions for not doing so), I researched (what research.....Googling) & realised that Ginger offers Serotonin which is a vital chemical for the brain to balance various functions. Ginger makes available Serotonin which brings in a sense of order in the brain function, on which depend other neurological functions.

Indian and Asian cuisines included Ginger in generous quantities not for nothing. Our ancestors knew the greatness of this wonder vegetable (root). So shall we.

If you would like to read more about the greatness of this modest root Ginger, read on:
