Birthtime defects & rectification

Vedic astrology largely depends on the birthtime, place and date for casting the horoscope of the individual and consequently for making worthy predictions.

However great an astrologer could be, if he has to depend on inaccurate chart (cast based on inaccurate data) his predictions would turn awry. Getting the wrong birthtime is One of the best ways to turn a horoscope to a ‘Horror”scope.

There are several stories emphasising the importance of accuracy in the horoscope and I am avoiding an effort to repeat them.  If the lives of twins born minutes apart can have completely contrasting looks, orientation (male or female), education, attitude and career,  a chart that puts the birthtime five minutes off mark, can give all wrong predictions even in the hands of an otherwise dependable astrologer.

There are multiple reasons for inaccuracies in the birthtime:

Watches of the doctor/nurse cannot be expected to be accurate, nor can we expect the watch to have been synchronised with standard times.
Will the doctor attend to the mother who is in  labour or be looking at her watch to make sure the astrologer gets the perfect birthtime of the baby.
In addition to these material reasons, there can be a conceptual inaccuracy on what signifies the birth time.
o Some say birthtime is the one when the baby starts crying
o Some say it is the time when the baby is touched by the mother for the first time
o Some say it varies from yuga to yuga and for Kaliyuga it is Bhoo-sparsa, meaning the time at which the baby is in contact with the earth (read : cradle/bed)
Child born in Sthree Vela will only be a girl and one born in Purusha vela will only be a boy.
Multiplicity of Almanacs & Panchangas used, each differing with the other
Computational errors by your astrologer

With so many features waiting to conspire you to  land up with the wrong birth time, chances of the birthtime in the natal chart being inaccurate is much higher compared to that being accurate. No question about that.

Admitting that this is the problem,  how to overcome this. Has Vedic astrology provided any remedy for this ? A big YES !

However the prescription is indirect . There is a branch of Vedic astrology titled “Nashta Jathaka”, believed to have been authored by the inimitable Varaha Mihira ( Mihira who got the honorific prefix Varaha, for having predicted the death of a prince in the hands of a Pig).

How to judge whether the chart is accurate:

There are several methods. I have listed out some:
Ganesha Deivagna’s Lagna based verification (read my short article on this technique: https://scribblingsofark.blogspot.com/2017/06/how-to-verify-if-lagna-is-correct.html)
Krishnamurthi Paddhathi (KP astrology) based cuspal sublord link with birthstar theory
Sthree-Pursha vela based verification. This theory believes that Child born in Sthree Vela will only be a girl and one born in Purusha vela will only be a boy.

My experience is limited but I would personally prefer KP cuspal sublord link method, because this is more scientific and hence consistent.

KP astrology principle says that in the cast chart, the Lagna cuspal sub-sub-Lord should have some connection with the Nakshatra Lord (Birthstar) . If such a connection does not exist the given birthtime requires correction.

Now that we know that the birthtime requires correction, the next question comes how can we achieve that.

Birthtime rectification technique:

Several methods exist including:
Calibration method of synchronising various known events in the native’s life with the planets that the horoscope indicates will cause those events. Example: With a known marriage date run a test on whether the marriage-granting planets were active during that time (Vimshottari Dasa) and iterate for various birthtimes.
o Continue the iteration for other key events in life . Iterate until all the timings of major events coincide with result granting planets (and dasas)
o The handicap in this method is when the native is too young to have witnessed key events in life.
KP method of iterating birthtime until such time a strong connection between the Lagna’s cuspal sub-sub-lord and the birth star (the star in which Moon is positioned at the time of birth)

These methods are very time-consuming and laborious. KP’s method is less cumbersome and is worth following.

Next time you consult an astrologer silently observe if he is making an effort to check if the chart is accurate before he gets on with his predictions and accordingly draw your own judgment about your astrologer.

Someshwara Temple and Subrahmanya Swamy Temple, Halasuru, Bengaluru

Said to be the oldest temple of Bangalore is dedicated to Lord Shiva, probably 1250 years old. Different opinions exist about who built the temple (Cholas or Vijayanagara kingdom). Irrespective of who built, we are grateful to those who built this lovely temple.

Halasu means a Jackfruit tree.... It is possible that the region was full of jackfruit trees that the town got this name 'Halasuru'. Modern world has adopted the meaningless name 'Ulsoor'.

Accompanied by Kamakshi Amma (one of the forms of Parvathi), Lord Shiva takes the name of Someshwara in this town.

A large temple structure with a 48 pillar mandala carved out of granite, is a sight to behold.

Modernisation has taken a toll on this vintage structure, with more cement and concrete visible.

The day we were granted permission by Lord to visit him was Pradosha and the devotees even though it was a working day.

Though Not visible from the main road, but very close to the Halasuru (Ulsoor) metro and Subrahmanya temple on Old Madras Road, this temple is easy to locate.

A large chariot mandapa  is however on the Old Madras road itself.

If you are a Bangalorean and if you had not visited this temple, your stay in Bangalore is not complete. British PM Theresa May and Canadian PM paid visits to this temple.

 Subrahmanya Swamy Temple

Subrahmanya swamy temple in Halsuru is difficult to miss if you are passing by either in Old Madras Road or Namma Metro.

A large temple pond and a 40 feet tall structure of Lord is visible even from the Metro compartments.

This temple is more than 800 years old and is very famous amongst the citizens.

Lot of improvements are happening but downside risk is that the temple is losing its old sheen.

A must visit temple in Bangalore.

Sri Devi Bhoo Devi Sametha Chockanathaswamy temple, Domlur, Bengaluru

Day's blessings (07/05/2017)

Being a staunch Maduraiite, I was keen on visiting a Siva Temple today, where chances are that there would have been a Thirukalyanam, coinciding with the Meenakshi Kalayanam today. As we (Latha and I ) have come to Domlur, Bangalore to settle our daughter  in her new job, I was scanning the map for a  temple nearby. God is kind and he showed me Sri Chokanathaswamy Temple within 2 kms from Ginger Hotel where we were staying. Thought of Chockanatha brought Meenakshi Kalyanam to our mind.

நாம் எழுதும் கதையில் twist வைப்பது இந்த ஆண்டவனுக்கு வேலையாயிருக்கிறது..... இன்றும் வைத்தார்.

Wikipedia traced the history of this temple to Raja RajaChola period and about his contributions to this temple by way of lands to take care of the maintenance of the temple.  Later developments and construction of the temple structure is by the Vijayanagara empire and their kings.

The real twist god gave was when we realised that this is a Vaishnavite temple and not a Saivite temple. மாமனா இருந்தா என்ன மச்சானா இருந்தா நமக்கென்ன !

A small temple, which is a little difficult to locate, though located parallel to the busy HAL airport road, and close proximity to the busy commercial district.  Located in the middle of a residential locality, the temple is deliberately constructed at an elevated point, so as to make sure Sun's rays falls on the deity in the month of Feb and March.

The temple management and the priest were sincerity personified, when it came to performing the poojas for the Sandhya Kaalam.

There are only three shrines, Sri Devi Bhoo Devi Sametha Chockanathaswamy, Lord Ganesha and Lord Anjaneaya. The latter ones  seem to be of a relatively recent addition, but I am not sure.

There were a few white squares marked in the Praharam and we did not comprehend until we asked someone. A lesser-known feature of the temple is its 12 pranic points -small white squares around the temple that are said to radiate powerful positive energy . “This is the only pranic temple in Bengaluru,“

Many of the sculptures in the temple evidence the age of the temple.

The Tamil Inscriptions in one of the pillars I saw ( needless to say that commercialization has forced such a testimony of vintage to be relegated to be the support for a steel structure) talk about the Tamil connections.

There is a granite flag mast outside the temple from which the Indian flag was hoisted on our Independence day in 1947. A picture commemorating that adorns the wall of the temple.

There are a couple of videos on youtube and news items and I am giving below a few of them.
